CALL FOR NOMINATIONS!
It’s time to submit your nominations for the 2012 Construction Manager of the Year Awards; the only Awards across Europe to recognise individual management excellence in the construction industry.
Every year CMYA continues to grow. Not only in size but also in the value placed on them by the industry and clients. Last year’s Awards saw over 100 finalists representing the successful management of projects with an aggregate value in excess of £4.4 billion!
CMYA is judged and presented by the Chartered Institute of Building; however entrants do not have to be CIOB Members and all entries are free of charge. The awards are open all site-based project managers with overall responsibility for the delivery of any UK construction project and are given to the individuals for their own project management work, not to their projects.

The 2011 Construction Manager of the Year is announced
The 2011 Construction Manager of the Year Awards took place on the 13th October at the Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in London and what an exciting evening it truly was. From all the gold medal winners on the night, it was Roger Frost MCIOB from Balfour Beatty who was awarded the much coveted title of 2011 Construction Manager of the Year for his work on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. His astounding project took over 4 years to build and had no serious injuries in 14 million man-hours it took to build it. On top of that, each of the 34 sectional handovers was delivered on time and to budget.
“With such a large project I couldn’t be ‘hands on’ with everything so I compare my role to that of an orchestra conductor. It’s my job to guide the teams and ensure they work in harmony to deliver ‘music to the clients ears’ or in this case a hospital,” said Roger Frost. He added, “Building hospitals is my passion. I thrive on the challenge and knowing that I have been able to provide facilities that will make a difference to thousands of people makes me proud to do this job.”
More details on Roger's project can be seen on the winners section of the CMYA site, along with details of all the other worthy medal winners and finalists on the evening. The awards, run by the CIOB, are widely recognised as the Oscars of the industry and the premier accolade for management in the built environment. It takes thirty judges six months of meticulous site visits and interviews (including the nominee, client and contractors) before the overall winner can be decided upon.
